LUCAS MURPHEY / SPORTS SENIOR Session
Lucas's senior portrait session was definitely a fun one to work on! Lucas was a Graves County student and football player. We covered our bases by taking some great portraits in studio and on location. What ended up standing out from the rest was the action oriented sports photography. We had been experimenting with water effects in the studio before this shoot, but this is the first time we've used them in a composited picture. I was skeptical at first that this would work, but after some serious fidgeting I think it ended up successfully. For my more elaborate portraits I get asked quite a bit how we created the final photograph. With that in mind here is a quick run through of the process. Thanks for reading! How Was it Made?
Creating this photograph was fairly standard on the shooting end. We photographed Lucas in our studio in Paducah, Kentucky. We used a standard spray bottle and lighting from behind to pull out the detail of the water droplets.
We used only two photos to create the final in post production. One picture of Lucas, and another for the backdrop.
Some intense Photoshop went into making the the water effect work. Since none of it is fabricated we had to do some fairly complicated things with the layering and blending modes.
